Manual camera operation, film exposure and development, and basic printing techniques will all be covered. Through demonstrations and supervised darkroom time, you will have the opportunity to learn the basic skills of black and white photography including visual elements like composition. Bring an empty 35 mm camera. Manual settings are strongly recommended but not required.

A collaboration with the EMU Outdoor Program! Make your own wooden kayak paddle, based off of traditional designs used by the first kayakers, native peoples of the Arctic.  The "Greenland Paddle" is a beautiful design, and extremely functional for the recreational paddler.  These are also the paddle of choice for expert paddlers, and those wishing to sneak up on walrus during the hunt!  Hand tools and power tools will be used in this class. In this tongs-on workshop, you will learn how to interact with fire to achieve stunning glaze colors only possible with Raku firing. Raku glazes range from unique iridescent metallic to ancient-seeming white or golden crackle effects. During the first session you will learn about the properties and techniques of raku glazing. In the second class you will participate in the firing of your work. Please bring up to four of your previously bisqued ceramics pieces to the first class. Be ready to see some flames! Wear natural fiber clothing.
