Jewelry and Metalsmithing

Explore smithing techniques that date back to ancient times or learn more modern fundamentals. In the Jewelry and Metalsmithing studio you can learn to carve, shape, size and design your own jewelry made from quality materials. We also offer resources for stone setting, casting, and polishing. For members inexperienced with metalsmithing, we offer several workshops a term to get you started.

Orientation Schedule:

Orientations are currently not required to use this studio. However, you must have previous experience using the equipment.

Make a simple silver ring quickly and efficiently enough to wear it home. The basics of soldering, shaping and sizing will be covered. 

Due to limited capacity, this in-person workshop is being made available for current UO students only.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Craft Center is committed to safety for all workshop participants. Studio users are expected to follow all standard Craft Center studio use guidelines. In addition, studio users are required to wear a mask covering nose and mouth while in the Craft Center facilities. All studio and tool use procedures are tailored for safety of both studio users and staff, and users will be asked to follow posted and verbal instructions to ensure a clean, comfortable studio environment. Detailed information about your workshop registration will be sent to you in a confirmation email from a Craft Center staff member before your workshop time.
