Many online workshops are multiple, weekly sessions. Each session will build on previous weeks, but please feel free to join us for as many as you are able! Be sure to register for each session you plan to attend.

Tuesday 4:00 - 5:00
07/14/2020

Clay pinch, slab, and coil pots are some of the oldest crafts in human history. Join us live via Zoom to learn some fun handbuilding processes to make a small bowl, cup, or other vessel. We'll chat about the properties of clay and a variety of simple processes you can do at home with tools you have on hand. Small portions of fireable clay will be available at the Craft Center Kit Dispensary on each Tuesday before the class, starting at 12:00 PM. If you grab one of these bags, you will have the opportunity to drop off your finished piece to be bisque fired later in the term. (We will only be firing Craft Center clay. No other clay will be accepted back.) Even if you don't have an opportunity to get clay, or you're not in the area, you can still join us to watch and learn some ceramic handbuilding techniques!

This is part of a multi-session workshop. To accommodate as many participants as possible, the sessions are listed separately, so be sure to sign up for all of them. If you are unable to attend a session, we will do our best to accommodate you and get you caught up.

Craft Center online workshops will take place via Zoom. Participants can work along with the instructor with the tools and materials available to them, or simply watch the workshop demonstrations and ask questions. Meeting login information will be emailed to participants shortly before the start of the session. If you do not receive a login email, please contact us so that we can connect you. In some cases, workshop demonstrations may be recorded for participants who are unable to attend the live session; this will only be done with the agreement of all participants.

Garage Woodworking

Wednesday 3:00 - 4:00
07/15/2020

You don't need to have a woodshop in your garage to do some woodworking. Basic hand tools and improvised techniques can make some incredible projects! Even without a garage, you can use this workshop to plan and create a fun and interesting woodworking project with tools and materials that you have on hand. We'll work together over the course of a few weeks to brainstorm ideas, solve problems, and develop some new skills.

This is part of a multi-session workshop. To accommodate as many participants as possible, the sessions are listed separately, so be sure to sign up for all of them. If you are unable to attend a session, we will do our best to accommodate you and get you caught up.

Users outside of the UO Community are not currently able to access the physical Craft Center facilities, but are welcome to participate in online workshops. Studios reservation availability is based on dates and times specified on the Craft Center website. Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to UO students. Reservation times will be listed for each studio as they become available. Each reservation block is for a single user (no guests or additional users). Studio reservations are 1.5 hour blocks of time, and each studio will be limited to a single user during that time period (Craft Center staff excluded). Each person may only make one studio reservation per day. Studios and equipment will be cleaned and disinfected between users.  Studio users are expected to follow all standard Craft Center studio use guidelines. In addition, studio users are required to wear a mask covering nose and mouth while in the Craft Center facilities. All studio and tool use procedures are tailored for safety of both studio users and staff, and users will be asked to follow posted and verbal instructions to ensure a clean, comfortable studio environment.

Friday 2:00 - 3:00
07/17/2020

Unlock your creativity through small projects and engage your creative voice! For four weeks you’ll jumpstart your inspiration through playful projects. Together we’ll draw, paint, collage, and make small books and zines. If you’ve had trouble jumping back into arts and crafts, this is a great workshop to learn new skills in unconventional ways through story telling, movement, emotions, and making a little mess. Before the first session, we recommend gathering the following materials: a small set of assorted colors of acrylic paint, a black water-based liquid ink (like Sumi ink), two paint brushes, some colored pencils, a charcoal stick, a pencil, a glue stick, 20 sheets of 9x12 paper, 2 sheets of 8.5x11 paper, 1 sheet of colorful 9x12 paper, some heavy duty thread, a thumbtack, and a large needle.

Mugs and Bowls

Tuesday 4:00 - 5:00
07/21/2020
