Shibori is the Japanese art of fabric resist dyeing. Students will learn Arashi Shibori, a pole wrapping and compression technique in this class. Variances in fabric direction and compression combine to create a distinctive storm-like pattern. Several immersion dyeing methods will be explored using fiber reactive dyes.

The skills from this class can be applied to many different types of drawing including botanical illustration.

In this tongs-on workshop, you will learn how to interact with fire to achieve stunning glaze colors only possible with Raku firing. Raku glazes range from unique iridescent metallic to ancient-seeming white or golden crackle effects. During the first session you will learn about the properties and techniques of raku glazing. In the second class you will participate in the firing of your work. Please bring up to four of your previously bisqued ceramics pieces to the first class. Be ready to see some flames! Wear natural fiber clothing.
